I'm a technology entrepreneur and designer.
For the last four years I've been leading design at Nokia, responsible for the industrial design and user experience design of the Nokia product portfolio. Recent amazing products by the Nokia design team include the award-winning Nokia Lumia family of smartphones, the N9, and the affordable new Nokia Asha and 105.
I will be leaving Nokia in November 2013 to return to being an entrepreneur.
Born in Finland, I was raised on three continents in Helsinki, Dar es Salaam and New York. I went on to study philosophy, economics and music at Columbia University where I lectured for several years. While at university I had a parallel professional life as a bassist and composer.
Prior to Nokia I was CEO and Co-founder of Dopplr, the social atlas for smart travellers around the world. Nokia acquired Dopplr in 2009. Before that I was part of the team behind Blyk, the free mobile network for young people, funded by advertising. I've held board positions in Artek, WITNESS, and F-Secure, and have served on the jury of the Prix Ars Electronica and the DA&D Awards.
