Music for Airplanes - Download MP3 44 MB - is an ambient piece that I originally composed for the wedding of two friends this year. The original piece was composed for two iPod shuffles and two pairs of muji speakers. Two different sets of short composed sections were loaded onto the iPod shuffles and the players were put in shuffle mode. The resulting generative piece is unique and lasts until the players need to be recharged. To me this is a simple exciting new way to make light-weight sound installations.
The attached file is a half-hour stereo remix of Music for Airplanes and is here offered to you the readers of this blog as an Ambient for the New Year 2006. The mix takes alot of liberties repeating and cutting sections. I've found that it makes for good music to think and write in.
I hope you enjoy Music for Airplanes and wish you a great New Year 2006.

Somehow this reminds me of my childhood. I cannot tell why but I got a weird feeling of flying back in time!

Hyvä Marko Ahtisaari,
Kommenttini ei koske viimeisintä musiikkiasi vaan aiempaa tuotantoasi. Tarina kysymykseni takana on seuraava:
Siskoni Liisa Mannila oli NEW YORKissa vuonna 1987. Kadulla joku kuvasi videokameralla.
Pekka Mannila

Which airport can I hear this in? Certainly not Heathrow these days. Where have you been and what have you been up to, Marko? Would love to catch up and maybe play the Bach Double again.

Thanks for sharing this, Marko, it's a lovely piece of music, and your approach to creating it is interesting, too.
I put a mention about it up at Synthtopia.

Hi Marko,
Thanks for a great piece! I used it in an underwater video of some snapping turtles I came across while hiking. Here is a link if you want to check it out: http://vimeo.com/12899676

Reminds me of Eno's Ambient Plateaux of the Mirror without in any way being derivative. Lovely Marko.
