Recently I've been reading more articles and books - and less blog posts - and listening more to longer pieces of music - and less podcasts and singles. Here's a selection in no particular order:
1. The Intercontinentals by Bill Frisell(recommended by digelius with Vinicius Cantuaria someone I learned alot from in New York). The world is flat but with lots of ripples (see #3 below)
2. Insen by Alva Noto aka Carsten Nicolai and Ryuichi Sakamoto (thanks to Sakamoto). Intensely beautiful.
3. The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century by Thomas L. Friedman (thanks to my father) A summary of the shifts ongoing, but too long not only in pages.
4. The curious incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon (thanks to Azeem Azhar). A brilliant, sad and perspective-changing story.
5. Kahdeksan pilven takaa. Japanin murros ja uusi nousu ("From Behind Eight Clouds") by Teppo Turkki. A fresh look on the transformation of Japan (unfortunately only in Finnish).
6. Reason Before Identity by Amartya Sen. Enlightening still and the opening immigration story is classic.
7. True Love Waits: O'Riley Plays Radiohead by Christopher O'Riley (thanks to Inma Martinez). The idea of piano covers of Radiohead songs sounds bad, I know, but this is quality.
8. Eternally Yours: Time in Design by Thackara, Eno et al. (thanks to Thonik) A design book with both words and pictures.
9. Purjehtijan Muistelmia by Henrik Ramsey ("Sommar och Segel" translated by Jukola and Rangell). An out-of-print book about sailing (thanks to Teemu Kurkela)
10. Sibelius: Symphony No. 5 (1915/19 scores) by Sinfonia Lahti and Osmo Vänskä
If I comnmiucated I could thank you enough for this, I'd be lying.
